Driving Safety & Navigation Notice
Steady Road by Sark Labs LLC · Effective October 26, 2026 · Version 2026-10-26
You’re the driver. Steady Road helps you, but it never drives, and it can be wrong. This notice is part of the Steady Road Terms of Service.
1. Moving? Talk, don’t touch.
- Use Sark by voice while you’re driving. Stopped at a light or in traffic still counts as driving; only parked safely off the road doesn’t.
- Mount your phone so it doesn’t block your view: in California, in a 7-inch square in the lower windshield corner farthest from you, a 5-inch square in the corner nearest you (outside the airbag zone), or on the dash or center console (Vehicle Code 26708). Keep it close enough that you never have to lean or reach for it.
- Don’t hold the phone, type, read, scroll or look at pictures while driving. At most, one tap to start or stop talking to Sark.
- If you drive a commercial motor vehicle, federal rules ban texting and holding a phone while driving, and carriers can’t allow or require it (49 CFR 392.80, 49 CFR 392.82). Breaking them can mean large fines, and it can cost a CDL holder their license. California also requires hands-free use for every driver (Vehicle Code 23123.5).
- Anything that needs your hands or eyes (paperwork, photos, receipts, emails, settings): pull over somewhere safe first.
- If Sark is distracting you, stop interacting with it. Close the app only when you’re safely parked.
2. Routes aren’t guaranteed, and most aren’t truck routes yet.
- Today, the maps, miles and drive times in Steady Road, and the navigation apps it opens (like Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze), use regular car routes. They don’t know your height, weight or length. When truck routing comes to Steady Road it will be truck-aware, but still not guaranteed.
- Turn-by-turn inside the app (where it’s available to you) comes from Google and gives a regular route unless the app clearly labels it a truck route. The bar under the map says “Regular route · not checked for truck height”. Pick your stop and start navigation before you drive, and use the voice guidance only when it fits the road signs, restrictions and safe driving. You’re responsible for tolls and other charges on the way.
- Map data can be wrong or out of date. No app knows every low bridge, weight limit, closure, construction zone, no-truck road or local rule.
- Road signs and your own measurements always win. If a route looks wrong, don’t take it.
- Keep your loaded height, weight and length correct in the app, and check them when your load changes. A top-deck SUV can change your height.
- Steady Road doesn’t check oversize or overweight permits, hazmat routes or local truck rules. Choosing a legal route is your job.
3. Double-check Sark.
- Sark can misread an email, a BOL, a picture or what you said.
- Check addresses, pickup and delivery times, pay, VINs and amounts before you act on them. Read drafts before you approve them, and review any rules you’ve taught Sark that let it send without asking each time.
- Load checks, pay per mile, MPG and money kept are estimates, not promises.
4. Keep your own records.
- Steady Road is not an ELD and not your logbook. The time card, mileage log and papers are helpers.
- If you connect your ELD, Steady Road displays, and Sark summarizes, information received from it. That information may be outdated, incomplete or wrong, and Sark may misinterpret it. Verify your available hours against your ELD’s official record and the hours-of-service rules that apply to you before deciding whether to drive. Available hours don’t mean you’re rested or fit to drive. Connect your account and select your driver profile only while safely parked.
- Reminders for papers, inspections and service are best effort. Keep your own dates.
- Nothing in the app is legal, tax, IFTA or insurance advice.
5. Emergencies
Steady Road is not an emergency service. Call 911.
6. Fleets
- If you join a fleet, its owner and dispatchers see your name, when you joined and whether you used the app that month.
- They see where you are only if you turn on sharing, and only while you’re on the clock. You can turn it off any time in the app (Profile, Your fleet).
- Your chats with Sark are never shared.
- The owner must tell you about any monitoring too. See the Privacy Policy.
