Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Sark Labs LLC (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares information through the Steady Road app, its AI assistant “Sark”, and the services that support it (“Steady Road”). It also covers the Steady Road website, steadyroad.ai (section 11). Steady Road was previously called SarkDispatch. Our company website, sarklabs.ai, has its own privacy policy.
- We collect what Steady Road needs to work: your account, truck and business details, the work email you connect or receive at your Steady Road address, your trips, miles, pay and expenses, your location (GPS while you're on the clock, plus arrival reminders you set up, navigation and requests you make, as section 1 explains), and, if you connect your ELD, your hours of service from it (read-only).
- We use it to run Steady Road for you. We don't sell your personal information, we don't share it for advertising, and there are no ads in the app.
- AI and other service providers process some of it to deliver features (section 4).
- You can see, fix, export or delete your data, and you can delete your account right in the app (section 8).
1. What we collect
You give us:
- Account: name, email address, password (stored by our login provider in hashed form) or your Sign in with Apple ID, and phone number if you add one.
- Truck and business details: home base, truck and trailer description, capacity, VIN, plate, DOT, MC and state carrier numbers, fuel tank sizes, costs you enter (fuel price, MPG, monthly costs), and your settings.
- Work records: trips and loads, vehicles hauled, pay, expenses, fuel fill-ups, receipts, invoices, time card entries, odometer readings, service records, and truck papers (for example registration, insurance and inspection documents) with their expiry dates.
- Chats and voice: what you type or say to Sark and Sark’s answers, rules you teach Sark, and feature requests. We keep the text of your conversations with Sark. We don’t save recordings of your voice; live voice audio is streamed to our voice provider so it can understand you and speak back, under its own terms.
- Pictures and files: photos, screenshots and documents you add (bills of lading, pay screens, receipts, papers).
- Support messages you send us.
Collected when you use features:
- Precise location (GPS):
- While you’re clocked in, the app records your location, speed and heading in the background to log miles, show your route and stops, detect arrivals, and match loads to where you’re headed. This recording stops when you clock out.
- Places you or Sark set up (for example your yard, or a place you taught Sark): if you allow location “Always”, your phone watches for you arriving at or leaving those places, even when you’re off the clock or the app is closed, and tells our server about the arrival or departure so Sark can remind you of what you asked.
- When you ask for something nearby or talk to Sark, the app may send your current location with the request.
- The app may check your current speed, without saving it, so it doesn’t put up screens that need your attention while you’re driving.
- You can change location permission in your phone’s settings at any time; mileage logs and some features won’t work without it.
- Connected email: if you connect a work mailbox, we access it to read and sort messages and attachments (for example load offers, bills of lading and pay statements), to save details from them, and to send, reply to, flag or move messages as you instruct. This includes the names and email addresses of people who write to you.
- Your Steady Road email address: if you get your own Steady Road address (it looks like yourname-1a2b3c4d@steadyroad.ai), we receive the emails delivered to it, with their attachments and the names and email addresses of the sender and other recipients. We read them to file your trips, papers and pay, and to show you the messages. These emails pass through Cloudflare’s email service on their way to our servers.
- Emails Sark sends for you: the recipient, subject, message and attachments, and the reply-to address and name you set.
- Turn-by-turn navigation inside the app (where it’s available to you) is provided by Google’s Navigation SDK. While you navigate, Google receives your phone’s location, your destination and route information under Google’s terms and privacy policy, which you’re shown the first time. We record navigation events: the route mode, the trip and stop, the destination label, and the status and time (for example charged, started, arrived, ended or failed). For truck routes we also record the truck dimensions, the distance, the estimated time and whether vehicle restrictions were partly ignored. These records don’t contain the route itself or the turn-by-turn directions. For place lookups, we send the stop’s text to Google and keep the answer by that text, without an account ID. When truck routing is available, we send Google the start, the destination and your truck’s dimensions.
- Truck data: if you pair a vehicle data plug (OBD), the readings it sends, such as VIN, odometer, fuel level, fuel use, engine codes, temperatures and alerts.
- Connected ELD: if you connect your electronic logging device (ELD) account, for example Motive, you sign in on your ELD provider’s own page and we never see your ELD password. We then receive from it, read-only:
- your remaining drive, shift, cycle and break time, your duty status and the time of that status;
- your driver name and ID, and your company’s name and ID;
- the names, IDs and email addresses of all drivers returned for the connected account, including drivers who don’t use Steady Road, to identify your driver profile. We compare their email addresses with yours without storing those email addresses. Other drivers’ names and IDs are deleted when your profile is selected. If selection remains unfinished, an hourly cleanup deletes the pending driver list and connection tokens after 24 hours;
- access tokens, and refresh tokens if provided, which we store encrypted to keep the connection working. We don’t change your ELD logs.
- Device and app information: device type, operating system, app version, push notification token, crash and error information, and records of feature use and costs (for example how many AI requests an account made).
- Subscriptions: if you subscribe through Apple or Google, they handle payment, and we never receive your card number. From Apple we receive the signed details of your purchase (the plan, transaction IDs, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, whether a free trial or offer applies, and later renewals, cancellations, refunds and billing problems, which Apple also sends to our server directly), linked to your account by a random ID.
- Fleets:
- If you set up a fleet: its company name, whether you also drive, the invites you create, and the dispatchers you invite (their email address, and when they were invited, accepted or removed).
- If you join a fleet: which fleet, when you joined or left, whether you used the app each month (to count trucks for the fleet’s bill), and whether and since when you share your work with that fleet.
- If you’re invited as a dispatcher: your account (once it’s made), which fleet, and those times. The fleet owner and its active dispatchers can see your email address, your invitation and membership status, and the invite, email-sent, acceptance and removal times, plus your name while you’re active. Removed dispatchers stay listed for 60 days. We email your invite and any sign-in links from our mailbox, with replies going to the fleet owner.
- We also keep short-lived records of sign-in and invite emails (see section 5).
From others: information in emails and documents that brokers, shippers and others send you, the hours of service and driver details your ELD provider sends us when you connect it, and the agreement record of which version of these documents you accepted and when.
2. How we use it
- To provide Steady Road: find and rank loads, read your email, log trips, miles, pay and expenses, track your truck, run the time card, show the hours left from your connected ELD and let Sark tell you them, remind you about service and papers, answer you as Sark, and send messages you ask for.
- To calculate estimates like pay per mile, money kept, MPG and load checks.
- To send you notifications you’ve turned on.
- To keep Steady Road safe and working: security, fraud and abuse prevention, debugging, limiting costs, and support.
- To improve Steady Road, for example fixing mistakes Sark makes.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
Some of this is “sensitive personal information” under California law: your precise location, the contents of the email you connect or forward to us, and your account login. We use it only to provide the features you ask for and for the security, safety and legal purposes the law allows, not to profile you or infer things about you.
We don’t use your content to train AI models. We send AI providers what’s needed for the feature you’re using. They handle it under their business terms, which may let them keep it for a limited time, for example for safety and abuse monitoring.
3. What we don’t do
- We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We don’t show ads or let advertisers track you in Steady Road.
- We share your data with other users only as section 4 describes.
4. Who we share it with
- Service providers that process data for us to run Steady Road:
- Supabase (database, file storage and servers, hosted in the United States);
- Cloudflare (hosts steadyroad.ai and stores its early-access list, and receives and passes on emails sent to your Steady Road address);
- our email provider, Namecheap Private Email (sends the emails Sark sends for you, and receives delivery notices and any replies sent to our sending address);
- Anthropic (Claude AI: chat, reading emails, documents and pictures, web search);
- xAI (Grok AI: live voice conversations and spoken answers);
- ElevenLabs and Deepgram (turning Sark’s answers into speech);
- Expo (push notifications and app updates);
- Apple (Sign in with Apple, push notifications, speech recognition, Apple Maps, App Store purchases);
- map, routing and place-lookup services such as Google Maps Platform (place lookups, routes and in-app navigation, when Google features are in use), OpenStreetMap-based services (for example OSRM, Nominatim and Overpass) and Open-Meteo, which receive addresses, place names or coordinates, without our adding your account name;
- your email provider, when we connect to your mailbox for you.
When Sark answers questions about your available hours, we send the relevant hours-of-service information to Anthropic or xAI, depending on the feature used. If an answer is turned into speech, its text is also processed by the speech providers used for that feature.
- Your ELD provider: when you connect it, it sends us the information in section 1 under its own terms and privacy policy. We send it only what’s needed to read your hours (our app’s credentials and its access key for your account), not your other Steady Road data.
- Other navigation apps: if you open a trip in Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze or another navigation app, that app receives the destination under its own privacy policy.
- People you choose: brokers, shippers, customers or others you email or message through Sark. They see your name (shown as “Your Name via Steady Road”), your company if you set one, what you sent and your reply-to email address. Replies normally go to your reply-to address, but delivery notices and replies sent to our sending address reach Sark Labs’ mailbox and may contain message content and attachments. We keep those as long as needed for support, delivery problems and our records, and you can ask us to delete them.
- Your fleet: if you join a fleet, its owner and the dispatchers the owner invites see your name, when you joined or left, and whether you used the app that month.
- If you turn on sharing (in the app: Profile, Your fleet), they also see, from that moment on and while you’re in the fleet:
- the trips and loads you log: places, cars and VINs, status, load numbers, the broker or shipper, what the load pays and what was paid, which paperwork items need checking, and the paperwork pictures on those loads;
- whether you’re on the clock, and your clock-in and clock-out times;
- your ELD hours and duty status, if connected and current;
- when your app last checked in (never what you asked or said);
- your latest location, speed and heading, only while you’re on the clock, with the reading’s time. Only a point recorded during your current shift and after you turned sharing on is shown; there’s no route history.
- Fleet sharing doesn’t give them your conversations with Sark, your expense and receipt records, your truck-paper records, your mailbox, your private notes or your private profile details. But shared loads and their paperwork (including pictures and PDFs) are shown as they are, so they can include contact details, notes or information about earlier events that’s written on them. Only loads first logged after you turn sharing on are shared. Location is limited to your latest point recorded during your current shift on the clock, after you turned sharing on; there’s no location history.
- You can turn sharing off at any time; it stops at once. See section 7.
- For legal reasons: to comply with law or valid legal process, to protect the safety of any person, or to protect our rights, as the law allows.
- Business transfers: as part of a merger, sale or reorganization, with notice to you.
- With your permission in any other case.
5. How long we keep it
- We keep your account and records while your account is open, so your history (for example mileage and money records you may need for taxes) is there when you need it.
- When you delete your account in the app, we immediately delete your account and its app records and files, except for the records listed here. When you ask us by email, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 45 days. Either way, we keep: copies in backups, which are overwritten on their normal schedule; your acceptance record (which terms you agreed to, when, and the account email), which we keep as long as needed for legal claims; App Store purchase records, with the link to your account removed, for refunds, taxes and fraud prevention; fleet billing records (the fleet, your former account ID, the month and whether your use was billable); a record that an account was deleted, without your name or email; a one-way fingerprint of your old Steady Road email address, so mail sent to it later isn’t delivered to anyone; emails in our own mailbox described in section 4; and anything the law requires us to keep. We also keep anonymous daily counts of navigation use.
- For a connected mailbox, the original emails stay with your email provider, subject to actions you tell us to take. We keep the details we saved from them, not a copy of your whole mailbox.
- Emails to your Steady Road address: we clear the full message from our processing queue when processing finishes or is marked failed. We keep processing information (the sender, the message size, times and status) and any trip details, chat summaries or documents saved from the email under your instructions or rules.
- Fleet dashboard:
- Dispatcher records are kept while the fleet exists. Removed dispatchers stay listed for 60 days.
- Sign-in link records hold a one-way fingerprint of the link, your account, your email address and the times. Records older than a day are deleted in batches the next time invite or sign-in emails are sent, so deletion can happen later.
- The records that limit invite and sign-in emails hold the fleet or account, the time and, for invites, a one-way fingerprint of the email address (not the address). Records older than two days are deleted the same way, so deletion can happen later.
- The time you turned on sharing is cleared when you turn it off.
- ELD: the connected-ELD record holds only the latest hours reading, not a history of ELD logs. We keep the connection tokens and your selected driver and company details while the connection is active. When you disconnect, we immediately delete these tokens, the current hours reading and the connected driver and company details from our active records, and ask your ELD provider to revoke the tokens. Disconnecting doesn’t delete your records at the ELD provider. Hours included in saved Sark conversations follow the rules for your account records above, backup copies follow the backup schedule above, and AI providers may keep information as described in section 2.
6. Security
We protect your information with measures such as encryption in transit, access controls that keep each account’s data separate, and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we’ll notify you as the law requires.
7. Drivers in a fleet
- If you join a fleet, its owner, and the dispatchers the owner invites, receive the information listed in section 4.
- Sharing your work is your choice: agreeing to these documents doesn’t turn it on. Your fleet can always see your name, role, when you joined or left, whether you used the app that month, and whether (and since when) you share. Sharing more starts only when you turn it on.
- Turning sharing off, leaving the fleet (Your fleet, Leave this fleet) or being removed blocks their access to your shared work at once. The basic membership and billing information above stays visible to the fleet. Information they already saw or saved can’t be recalled. Turning sharing back on starts a new sharing period, and rejoining a fleet needs your yes again.
- Fleet viewers get paperwork pictures only through our server, which checks their access every time. We can’t recall a copy someone already saved.
- The owner is responsible for its and its dispatchers’ use of this information, and for any notices or permissions the law requires.
- When we process this information on the fleet’s behalf for these fleet features, we act as its service provider under section 8 of our Terms. Your own Steady Road account stays under the rest of this policy. We use monthly activity information to run the fleet’s billing and keep the billing records described in section 5.
Connecting a carrier’s ELD account to an individual Steady Road account doesn’t by itself create a Steady Road fleet account. We may receive information about other drivers only to identify the connecting driver, as described in section 1. Those drivers may contact us at sark@sarklabs.ai about their information without creating a Steady Road account.
8. Your choices and rights
- See, correct, export or delete: fix most information in the app. Delete your account in the app: tap your initials (top right) to open your profile, then Delete account. Or email sark@sarklabs.ai from your account email to get a copy of your data or delete your account; we’ll confirm it’s you before acting. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription: cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings.
- Location: clocking out stops mileage and trip recording. Watching for arrivals at and departures from places you set up can continue off the clock if you allow location “Always”, and requests you make may include your location. Change location permission in your phone’s settings to limit location access.
- Email: disconnect your mailbox at any time.
- Fleet sharing: turn it on or off at any time in Profile, Your fleet; turning it off stops it at once.
- ELD: disconnect it at any time under your initials, Your ELD. You can also remove Steady Road’s access from your ELD provider’s own settings.
- Notifications: turn them off in the app or your phone’s settings.
- Sark’s rules: pause, change or forget them in Profile, “What I’ve taught Sark”.
California residents. If the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to us, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; to get a copy in a portable format; to opt out of its sale or sharing (we don’t sell or share it); to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use it only for the purposes the law permits); and not to be treated differently for using these rights. You can use an authorized agent; we’ll need proof of the agent’s authority and to confirm your identity. Email sark@sarklabs.ai with “Privacy request” in the subject.
Do Not Track. Steady Road doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t let other companies collect information about your activity across apps and websites through Steady Road. So Steady Road doesn’t change its behavior for “Do Not Track” browser signals.
9. Age limit
Steady Road is only for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a minor has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.
10. Where data is processed
Steady Road is for use in the United States. We’re based in the United States and store your account data there. Some of our service providers may process information in other countries.
11. The steadyroad.ai website
- Early-access list. If you sign up on steadyroad.ai, we store your email address, the number of trucks you picked, which form you used, the time, and the country Cloudflare estimates from your connection. We store it in our Cloudflare account, and we don’t store your IP address with it.
- We use it only to email you about Steady Road early access. We don’t sell it or share it for advertising; our hosting and email providers process it to run the list and send those emails. We keep it until you ask us to delete it or the early-access program ends, whichever comes first. To be taken off the list, email sark@sarklabs.ai or reply to one of our emails.
- The site doesn’t use cookies, ads or analytics trackers. Like any website, our host Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address to deliver and protect the site.
- California residents have the rights described in section 8 for this information too.
12. Changes to this policy
We’ll post any change here with a new effective date. If a change is material, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and the app will ask you to review it.
